In this beautifully written editorial, Iraq War vet Kevin Powers writes about how, returning from the war, he spent more than a year drowning himself in alcohol, hoping to disappear. Then, unexpectedly, he found himself in books, where he learned to experience his suffering as part of the human condition. This had a profound effect in helping Powers to accept himself, with all his turmoil and confusion. This is what art, and all good therapy, is ultimately about.
